Among all of the countries, healthcare taxes in America are higher than any other, reaching up to $3.3 trillion, approximately 6.6% of the United States’ GDP (“Healthcare Industry”). Healthcare is a growing conflict in America today because as prices rise, more problems are given rise to in the United States. Many factors of the United States are affected because of the increase of the prices. They can be expressed in the forms of standard of living in the United States. It is essential that the United States government prioritizes affordable healthcare in order to protect the economy as well as its citizens.

The Institute of Medicine reports that worker related accidents (due to diseases and health problems) may exceed $1 trillion a year (“Public Health”). The price of healthcare has an influence on the economy of the nation. Being unhealthy causes many workers serious problems physically and financially. If healthcare was more affordable, workers would be able to work more efficiently and increase productivity, therefore increasing the economy of the nation. When unhealthy workers come to work, the effects of their productivity are less than the workers who take sick days off (“Public Health”). Unhealthy people can cause a slight decline in the economy as work starts to become unproductive and less precise depending on the scenario. If healthcare was more affordable, people would be able to get treated at a faster rate allowing them to contribute more to the economy. Less productive workers are worse than employees who take sick days. Although there are less people working, productivity will still be at a higher rate than those who are unhealthy. Most finances in a business go toward the labor costs necessary for a business to prosper. A right to healthcare could decrease cost of labor expenses by 10-12% (“Providing Health”). As healthcare businesses pay for their employers healthcare, it incurs losses leading to a deficit. If healthcare is reduced, under a single-payer system, businesses will not have to suffer from too many losses, and the general healthcare would be paid off by one single party instead of individual private ones. With healthcare reform, expenses could be reduced by a difference of $1.545 Trillion (“Economic Impact”).
