The impacts that the Affordable Care Act has had on American healthcare
Many people in America want and need healthcare, but cannot afford it. This is what the Affordable Care Act was made for. This act, passed in 2010, was made to help with healthcare in America. This act would help to cut costs for the government and help Americans get universal healthcare. People with health problems or people who could not afford healthcare before the Affordable Care Act could get access to things easier and would be able to get them at a reduced cost. It is designed to cut costs for healthcare in the United States. This act also helped uninsured Americans receive health insurance The act helped “high risk” Americans to get health insurance. This act also let the government control the costs and quality of care (Weiner 1). This reduction to healthcare costs was to be done many different ways, which included many different types of models and tax increases. One way was alternative payment models. Some other ways that the Affordable Care Act sought to cut costs of insurance in the U.S. was provider payment reductions and an established commission that would enforce and look at growth targets. The government would also create tax plans to help fund the Affordable Care Act. One of these plans was the “Cadillac Tax”. This was a forty percent tax added on to employer sponsored healthcare coverage plans that went over a certain amount. This would help to generate funds for the Affordable Care Act. This tax would have been a huge curve reducer for the cost of healthcare in the United States. This tax also could have helped with long term costs. Another cost cutting measure that the Affordable Care Act tried to implement was individual market places. This would create and regulate individual market exchanges. One of these positives is the financial help that it gives to people. Since the Affordable Care Act helps to reduce people's healthcare cost, people will not have to pay as much out of pocket as they would had the Affordable Care Act been passed. This also means that since people will not have to pay as much out of pocket, they can use that money for things like bills and groceries. This pay reduction also offers help to “high risk” people. Since they usually need a lot of medical care, it will cost less for them. They will also have reduced healthcare costs, which helps them to save money. One of the other positives is the accessibility of healthcare. After the Affordable Healthcare Act was passed, many citizens who could not afford healthcare before could get free and accessible healthcare. The Affordable Healthcare Act also helps with Job Lock for employees. There are many jobs that offer healthcare for their employees. Although, this forces employees to stay at their job or company because they do not want to lose access to healthcare. The Affordable Healthcare Act helps to eliminate job lock by providing another option for healthcare.
