The highly controverted affordable care act, also known as obamacare; has impacted america in both good and bad ways. In this essay i will be explaining how socially, economically, and politically obamacare has affected america. Also i will be giving detailed insight on how the extensive act influenced the common man, and how it affected their lives daily.
The affordable care act has a big circle of influence including social, economic, and political changes, which are good, but also negative aspects. Socially the affordable care act helped the common man, and the lower man on the economic spectrum by giving them a way for affordable insurance. The affordable care especially has a big impact on the economy, including money, taxes, etc. Firstly, since senior citizens are getting insured more and more, the government has to play a role in lowering their rates. One way the government lowers their rate is, by giving tax breaks to the poor and high taxes to the rich since they have the money to live, etc. Also, medicare beneficiaries have to give out less money for premiums, deductibles, and copays because they are tied to the growth of federal spending on the program. The obama administration figured out that typical medicare beneficiaries pay about 700$ in premiums and cost sharing. Also is is closing the gap in drug coverage, meaning when the deductible is met which is 4,900$, you no longer have to pay for the remaining prescription drugs you need. Since the enactment 11 million people have saved more than 2,100$ on average with prescription drugs. But one downfall is that obamacare does mean higher costs for more affluent beneficiaries. But, the law froze the threshold for the premium surcharge, which is 85,000 for individuals, and 170,000 for couples, so more people have become subject to it. Also obamacare added a premium surcharge on drug coverage for higher- income enrollees. In this paragraph i will talking about the political effects of the affordable care act, also how the republicans aren’t in favor of this, and how the democrats are in favor of this act on the political spectrum. Republicans think that people can be uninsured with no problem, and leaving insurers without billions of dollars in promised federal payments. After GOP control the republicans and the white house have damaged the affordable care act, but have fallen short of their goal of dismantling it. President Trump eliminated the bill that would restore the two years of payments that the law guarantees insurers, which was estimated at 8$ billion to reimburse them the discounts the affordable care act health plans must give lower-income customers for out of pocket expenses and deductibles. Also the House of Representatives opposed the bill that would provide about 10$ billion over the next two years to help states create high risk pools to cope with customers with high medical costs.
