a. What is a CIS
A Clinical information system is a computer based system that collects, stores, analyze and makes data available in the care environment therefore assisting caregivers to make informed decisions on healthcare issues. A CIS will assist an organization in workflow management as it will make it easier for different caregivers and support staff to work with the same patent record simultaneously. It will also reduce duplication, for example, Vital signs entered into a CIS are available to different caregivers reducing the need for different caregiver to recheck, also these readings can be cross-checked against historical values

During this time, the record remains in-accessible to other caregivers. This is not the case with a CIS where all caregivers with relevant access privileges can access a patient’s chart at any time. Access is also better managed as privileges can be changed by the administrator and be effective immediately. Accessibility is also increased, dictation capability, use of visuals such as images and graphs and text to voice capabilities can be built into CIS to give access those with physical disabilities unlike in a paper based system where these services would require heavy investments is support staff and equipment. The system can make records available at far off locations.
With a CIS, patient’s can easily augment and complete their medical records by; answering questionnaires on tablets/kiosks, checking-in using automated kiosks or sending in documents through a secure messaging system.
In case of office relocation or change of care provision venue; CIS offers easy relocation and seamless operations, this also helps in busy care environments where patients are allocated care locations/rooms easily since a manual Chart does not have to be availed to the provider.

f. An organization would be at better standings with government regulators and be able to exploit computerized billing for faster payment.
