At the beginning, Helen Keller was an outcast because of a disease she had no control over. Some people thought that she was faking her condition and some thought that she was crazy. She was looked at as an outcast but chose to overcome what people thought to accomplish something greater. Looking over the crib, Mrs. Keller says, “She can’t see look at her eyes,” also saying, “Or hear. When I screamed she didn’t blink. Not an eyelash” (Gibson 7).
