Henry David Thoreau was born on July 12, 1817 and died on May 6, 1862(Wikipedia,web) is described on the Internet to be an “American essayist, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor and historian.”(Wikipedia, web). I have chosen this theme because I was impressed and shocked by the truth. I have only read two chapters from “Walden”(“Economy” and “Where I Lived and What I Lived for”) but I promised myself to read the entire book when I have time. Sincerely, I also choose this theme because H.D. Thoreau had the same zodiac sign as mine. Is very interesting to discover that a person who had the same zodiac sign as you was a famous writer and he left something behind to inspire more …show more content…

He built a caban and grew vegetables, so he did not need so many material things (H.D. Thoreau,”Walden”,3).He choose to live alone in the woods at 27 years old(simplicitycollective, web). “And when the farmer has got his house,he may not be the richer but the poorer for it, and it be the house that has got him”(H.D. Thoreau, “Walden”,33). This simple quote has many useful meanings. Thoreau talks about the possesions people want, he also tells us that the possesions got humans, not humans got possesions. But he also refers that the house we live in, is not ours because we pay a loan to the bank, and offialy is not ours. That quotation is still applying nowdays, people want a big house and when they get it they want a bigger house, that is the mode in which our possession got us. In the future we will be surrounded only by houses, cars, clothes and other expensive things. “One the one side is the palace, on the other are the almshouse and “silent poor” (H.D.Thoreau , “Walden”, 34). Another quote which is a sadly part of society. People are divised in rich and poor, and poor people do not have the right to say something to the rich people. If you are poor the rich people will ignore you does not matter if you are an intelligent person, if you do not have money you do not have anything. That is the opinion of the rich. It is a really sad to see that in other parts of the world, people do not have water to drink and in others, people spend a large amount of money to stupid
