In the poem called Works and Days, written by an ancient Greek poet Hesiod, a god named Prometheus gives mankind the gift of fire without the consent of Zeus. This infuriates Zeus, which results him to punish Prometheus by inflicting him with eternal pain. Not only did Zeus punish Prometheus, but he also penalized mankind. In Hesiod's poem, it mentions, "The price for the stolen fire will be a gift of evil to charm the hearts of all men as they hug their own doom" (45).
More importantly, Athena returned the favor with proper guest etiquette. Ergo, Athena’s role as a guest developed into an exceptional form of ritualized friendship, after she offered critical advice to Telemachus’. In the absence of Odysseus, Athena took the initiative to guide Telemachus in the search for his father. The treatment of women has always been different in different societies, cultures, and time periods. In the Odyssey, the treatment of the female gods is different than the treatment of mortal women because the gods are a powerful being, but the mortal women are property and owned by their husbands. If a women marries a man who she has more money then, they will live in her house, but he will be in charge of everything, including herself. In book 21 and book 3 show the power of the mortal women compared to the power of the goddesses. In the Odyssey, the mortal women are treated and used differently from the way that the goddesses are worshiped because of the gender and societal roles that each group of women are assigned.
The most important relationship that Odysseus developed in his journey was with the goddess Athena. The Greek people learned that the gods will help in time of need. This helped the Greek people respect the gods even more. The goddess Athena helps Odysseus when he was in times of need. She helps Odysseus be free from Calypso, “ she begs her father, Zeus to help her favorite, and Zeus agrees.

Beginning with the Golden Age: Men of this time never had to work and were always cared for. The men of this time never aged, and when they died they went to sleep. When this age came to an end, its population became guardians of mankind, protecting them from evils and granting them with much wealth. The Silver Age was worse than the Golden, both in body and mind.

Throughout The Odyssey, the women exemplified their power during the course of Odysseus’ journey. Odysseus’ wife, Penelope, bravely held down the front in Ithaca while her husband struggled to find his way back home. In Book 18, Penelope spoke to the ever-so-desperate suitors about what Odysseus “told” her before he left.
