Becoming a hero otherwise known as conqueror, idol, or superman can be a dream for some but for Hercules becoming a “true hero” was his golden key to get into Mount Olympus. The movie, Hercules starts off, before the protagonist, Hercules is even born. The Muses or five goddesses in charge of the arts sing about the days before Zeus imprisoned The Titans. They also foreshadow that Hercules will indeed become a hero. The next scene happens on Mount Olympus, where the gods and goddesses are celebrating the birth of Hercules whose parent happen to be Zeus and Hera. Everyone is overjoyed of the news except for Hades, god of the underworld and Zeus’ brother. Yet he does not live there instead choses to stay on earth with Meg. Not to mention Hercules is made into a constellation. The movie overall is extremely motivational and an inspiration. It teaches its audiences never to give up and the real meaning of being a true hero. However, in terms of accuracy the film does not portray true Greek mythology. Many events and characters do happen but not exactly as the movie portrays them to. For example, Hercules’ was never a god but a demi-god. Also, Hercules is his Roman name but his Greek name is Heracles. He was the son of Zeus but his mother was actually Amphitryon, who in the movie was his adopted mom. Hera actually hated Hercules. She was jealous and sent two snakes to kill him. Hercules does in fact marry Megara and the two end up having three children. Their happiness is short when Hera kills both Hercules’ wife and children. This will cause Hercules to go through his twelve labors to prove himself.
