The All Mighty Hercules
The most well-known hero, Hercules, is a hero who is known for his remarkable story we all hear about today. Hercules was set-up at an early age and has been fighting his whole life, known as a mortal, but seen as part god. He was mortal with God-like strength which is not usually the case in myths. Many aspects of Hercules stand out but some which differ Hercules from other heroes such as his mortality with God-like powers. Although he did commit awful crimes and killed people he is still seen today as a hero and his story continues to be told. Once he completed the twelve labors, he was set free to live his life with his actions forgiven, not forgotten though. As The Life of Hercules in Myth & Legend states, “Struck again by Hera with madness, Hercules killed the prince Iphitus of Oechalia and was told by the oracle that he must sell himself as a slave to atone for his sin.” Hercules was always fighting for his life and to save people, this act is what earned him the honor of still being a hero. He was a figure who showed “everyone has monsters they need to conquer and seemingly impossible tasks they are faced with and tragedies that seem too hard to bear '' (Mark). Fighting impossible monsters and completing tasks that look impossible proves hard work and determination, Hercules never stopped fighting. He can be inspiring to people who feel overwhelmed and faced with difficult tasks and doubt themselves, Hercules was not any different and fought for what he believed in and won.
