Herodotus opens his paragraph claiming that he is writing history to preserve the “great deeds/wonders (ta thaumata, in Greek)”; however, he does not display cultural chauvinism. Herodotus is simply displaying Greek cultural curiosity. He continues on to elaborate on this Greek culture curiosity by increasing his suspicious on many accounts. The stories he has gathered throughout his journeys have created a sense of curiosity to find out more about the historical origin of many empires within the region.
