Narrative News Story; Draft 2
The Bell rang and the students at SMS were abuzz with excitement. The new school year had just begun and all of the Eighth Graders were awaiting the privileges of being the oldest group of students in the school. The envious sixth and seventh graders looked on in envy as the eighth graders opened their full sized lockers. The moment any sixth grader comes into the school on the first day they can't wait to be in eighth grade. But for all students, regardless of grade the school day starts out the same, walking into the building and greeting their friends. But for the students, the rest of the day is very different.
The new students asked for directions trying to find the way around the school. SMS is a maze and quite hard to navigate, especially for someone new, even an eighth grader. The new school year means there will be many new things such as, electives teachers, students schedules and lunch times and much more. Many students have said the change to eighth grade is drastic and that the transition is difficult. Some students disagree and say being the oldest is exciting and they can't wait until High School.

For some teachers it can be their first year teaching and others, their thirtieth. This year there are a few new math teachers, science teachers and a new custodian. But, other than having new teachers, students have the opportunity to be in electives that they couldn't have been in in previous years. Some of these electives are Advanced Band, Leadership 2, Teacher Aide, Office Aide and many others. In addition to their changing life at school, the lunch period for eighth graders is in the middle of Fourth Period. They will have half of Fourth Period and then leave for lunch. When they get back they finish up the other half of fourth period and then head to
