On the other hand, Scotland only has three categories of prison: High Supervision where every movement must be monitored with constant supervision; Medium Supervision is slightly lesser than high supervision prisons, not every move is watched but the prisoners are still under a great deal of supervision and have restrictions on the activities they can do; and finally Low Supervision where the prisoners can actually perform duties and activities without supervision and this has the lowest form of restrictions.

Running a prison and keeping prisoners isn’t a cheap system, there are multiple costs to be considered and that goes into funding a prison. There’s the Certified Normal Accommodation (CAN), Direct Resource Expenditure (DRE) which is the net expenditure recorded by every prison, the Overall Resource Expenditure (ORE) also includes the net expenditure, and there is also the individual costs for each prison and each individual it houses.

Even family members of the prisoner individual can be affected by their family members time, the individuals family members have been reported to suffer from issues such as stress, mental disorders such as depression and anxiety as well as eating disorders, all because someone close to them is in prison. Not only can it affect the individual emotionally, it can also affect them socially and affect their ability to find a career after prison as they may be untrusted as law abiding
