At the same time he intertwines his personal experiences and provides a remarkable account in which he says that growing up in America as a Muslim led him to discover the importance of cultural pluralism, the acceptance of all religions, and his huge account that all Muslims aren’t extremists. He believes in ethnocentrism; religions should be able to coexist without feeling that one religion is superior than the other. In a world where the forces that seek to divide us are strong, Patel thinks the meaning of pluralism is that the differences

At times each empire had rulers who accepted Hindus and Christians with open arms (Gale). However the Mughals had trouble practicing it at some times. “Alienated groups were the Rajputs (a sect of Hindu warriors), the Jats (a distant branch of the Rajputs), and the Marāthās (a sect of Hindus from Maharashtra, a region in west-central India).
Under the charter people are free to practice their religion and express their beliefs. However even this has limitations in many cases practicing one’s religion has led to the impeachment of another’s rights. An example of religious rights being violated to protect another’s is seen the case of a Sikh teen wearing a kirpan3. Several Sikhs have even challenged the law in order to bring change to Canada and to make other citizens aware of the true beliefs of the religion. Perhaps the most discriminated against religious group in America are the Sikhs, and it is for all the wrong reasons. In a post 9/11 America, Sikhs are all too often mistaken as members of the Muslim faith, of whom only a select few were to blame for the terrorist attacks of 2001. September 11th, 2001 can be considered the boiling point of Sikh discrimination, as it erased years of progress in terms of acceptance of the Sikh religion and its followers in America.
