Hinduism and Buddhism are two religions that are alike and different in many ways. Hinduism and Buddhism are similar in their countries of origin, their belief in consequences for our actions and what occurs after we die. Also, both belief in the importance of living a moral life. Some differences are having a caste system, having Holy books and Priests, and being able to end the cycle of rebirth. Some differences are that Hinduism believes in Atman which means eternal self. With Buddhism, there is no concept of the self. Hindus are polytheistic but Buddhists are neither monotheistic or polytheistic. Buddha preached that one should search for one's own god, not to be told.

Buddhists preach that life is full of sorrows and the only solution to end these sufferings was to seek nirvana. Hinduism recognizes that there is suffering in human life, the sorrows are attributed to previous karma or actions of the human being. They call this Karma otherwise known as the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in the future. The cycle of life is something both religions believe in and call reincarnation. This means at death a person's soul is reborn. Both religions strive to be peaceful and believe in nonviolence.
