This occurs because in the United States, individuals do not know how to communicate with one another. This lack of communication is a continuous merry-go-round. Citizens of the United States are part of the historical background of American individualism. The merry-go-round stems from individuals avoiding confrontation with others. These avoidances start from ground level to the highest level. The ground level represents when young children are developing their social skills with the highest level involving individuals who run institutions or other corporations. There are many new programs and series whose purpose is to change this. U.S. citizens do not have the capabilities to have conflictual conversations with others. This is because there is no information about how to handle a conversation if the two individuals involved have different beliefs about the topic. The misinformation is not having the ability to have a conversation of differences without hostility towards the other person. This aspect falls into how and if a culture can become individualistic or collective. There are three key factors that explain this. First, is the complexity of a society. This is when individuals live in more industrialized societies creating more groups, which gives individuals more outlets to identify as. This increase amount of opportunities of identities creates less loyalty to one specific group resulting in a focus on individual goals instead of the collective in-group goals. The second factor is the affluence of society. This represents when individuals begin to flourish and receive an advantage from one another. This bolsters social independence and mobility creating a focus on personal goals instead of collective group goals.
