There have been many definitions for the word culture. Culture is defined as the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. Culture is a way of living and a set of values respected by that society. Without culture, there would be little difference between us around the world. Culture gives us a sense belonging to particular area of the world, and has a significant effect on history.
Social groups have impacted culture in many ways. The groups in which we gather and spread ideas allows for a change in culture. These relate to whom others associate ourselves with. One of the best examples of this was the Soviet Union and the United States after World War II. Their opposing governments caused them to be against each other. This causes a distinctive difference in culture on both sides. For Russia running on a communist society, the people were unfaltering loyal to their country and more importantly, their government. This is because the government supplied them with all they needed and anyone who opposed their government was killed. In the United States we are a republic. This government leaves people, more or less, to their own devices with fewer restrictions. People are dependent on themselves rather than the government. Most people are loyal to their country, but those who oppose the government are left alone, this result causes a diversified country with many different opinions. In the United States, you are free to believe what you like. This turns the United States into a stew of different cultures and ideas, while Soviet Russia has a more unified culture. Arts and literature have been means to spread cultures. One of the best examples of this is religious literature. This has been used to spread religion, another factor that determines culture, across the world. Arts and literature are products of a culture and are used to spread that culture around the world.
Language is another section of culture. Language has been able to separate cultures from one another. It has formed barriers from one culture to another. One such example was in early England with the Anglo-Saxons who spoke German and French. It was the French who were usually the nobility and the Germans who were the peasants. As the languages combined to form English, the root of farm animals comes from German, while the names of the meat come from French. Languages have been a way to distinguish a person from another culture and assumptions can be made by the language spoken.
The customs and traditions in a country and what laws are enforced cause a significant change in culture.
