History of Marijuana
The existence of Marijuana has been recorded as far back as 2737 B.C. in China and rapidly spread to India, North Africa, and Europe by 500 A.D.
The recreational use became popular among the Muslim population in India, leading to the development and popularization of marijuana. It can also be referred to as Cannabis and Hashish (a drug containing the resin of the cannabis flower).
The plant was brought by Spanish explorers to North America in the year 1545 . By 1611, it was introduced and it quickly became a staple commercial crop in Jamestown. By the year 1890, marijuana as the major cash crop was replaced by cotton, causing it to effectively fall off the market.

The Hinduism faith/religion also used marijuana in as far back as the second millennium. It was used in the worship of the Hindu deity, Shiva. Marijuana has also been used during the spring festival, Holi by yogis to enhance their religious experience. Furthermore, it is believed that Bhang, a drink that contains marijuana flowers was used as a cleanser by users to rid themselves of their sins and to help them become one with Shiva, and avoid hell .

Many devotees also believe that marijuana is the “Tree of Life”. Although not all adherents use marijuana, most believe it will bring them closer to God” .
