The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement agencies is a program that helps public safety agencies who have demonstrated compliance with CALEA policies and standards. CALEA was started in 1979 as a credentialing authority law enforcement’s important association. Some of these associations deal with the international association of chiefs of police, national organization of black law enforcement executives, national sheriff’s association, and police executive research forum.The program "seals provide agencies with an easy-to-recognize international banner that confirms the angecy’s commitment and priotities to continue developing professional delivery of public safety services” (CALEA). Its vision and mission are to be ahead of the threat and protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States. The FBI’s priorities is to combat significant violent and white-collar crime, protect civil rights, combat public corruption at all levels, and to protect the U.S. against foreign intelligence, espionage, and cyber operations. The FBI is known to work “around the globe with 56 field offices located in major cities throughout the U.S., more than 60 international offices in U.S. embassies worldwide, and 350 satellite offices known as resident agencies” (FBI). This agency employs more than 35,000 people, including special agents and support professionals such as intelligence analysts, language specialists, scientists, and technology specialists. The FBI holds up core values throughout the agency such as respect, integrity, compassion, and rigorous obedience to the constitution. Some of the crimes that they investigate would be terrorism, cybercrime, counterintelligence, civil rights, public corruption, weapons of mass destruction, organized crime, violent crime, and white-collar crime. This agency was “founded on July 26, 1908, by Attorney General Charles Bonaparte. The COPS policing starts with a commitment to building mutual respect and trust between communities and policing. This bond is critical to the public safety to address the nation’s crime challenges. They discuss that when communities collaborate with policing, it becomes more effective when identifying and addressing issues and change negative behavioral patterns. COPS also “grant awards to policing professionals to develop a test of innovative policing strategies, and provide training and technical assistance to the community members, local government leaders, and all levels of law enforcement” (COPS). The history of COPS started with “policing services in the year of 1994... This was started when the passage of Violent Crime Control and Law enforcement Act authorized a great amount of money for the past six years” (COPS). This is when COPS was created and to distribute and monitor the funds. There recruitment, hiring, and retention is focused on the best law enforcement officers to take care of a thriving community.
