“Washington's army made slow progress on their journey to the Forks. They chopped their way through the woods in order to clear the first road for wheeled vehicles through the Allegheny Mountains. It took them fifteen days to go just twenty miles. ”(the fight) The commander of the French forces was Claude-Pierre Pecaudy, seigneur de Contrecoeur, a tough old veteran of the frontier service.
Located in the beautiful state of Wyoming, the Grand Teton mountain is the tallest peak of the Teton Range. Day 1 - Snake River Rafting My first day in visiting Grand Teton National Park will be a day of great relaxation.
My group read a Nez Perce legend “When Sweat Lodge Was Human". The Nez Perce tribe was located in Northwest America but now has a 750,000 acre reservation in Idaho. The Nez Perce was a migratory tribe and their diet consisted of such foods as roots, moose, buffalo, elk, salmon, potatoes, carrots, blackberries, elderberries, pine nuts, strawberries, and sunflower seeds. From what I have read and analyzed The Nez Perce Tribe believes that In the beginning of time before humans all the animals met together in a group and had a discussion. This discussion was about the animals and what their roles in wildlife would be.
The Nez Perce refused to sign the agreement that said they would give their land to the government and they said that they were not bothering anyone. However, the settlers did not like Native Americans and accused the Nez Perce of stealing horses and killing their farm animals. Soon after, White Bird attacked the fort and won the battle. In retaliation, the Union attacked the Nez Perce’s allies. As a result, the Nez Perce ran with their fellow allies to an area in Montana that is now known as Yellowstone.

“The Oregon Trail,” written by Francis Parkman is a description of the experiences traveling into the unknown depths of the American west in 1846. The story is told from the first person point of view of Parkman, a scholar from Boston who embarks on the great expedition of traveling into the west in hopes of studying the lives of the Native Americans. His journey is also one of the first detailed descriptions of the beauty and the bounty of a largely uninhabited North American territory. But one of the most critical elements of the story was Parkman’s encounters and recruitment of members to his band of travelers who ultimately play a major role in the success of the western journey.
My thoughts on this week show is that I believe that Lewis and Clark would not have been able to complete their journey with the help of the native people that they encounter while on the journey. To my knowledge, Indian tribes such as the Mandans help provide supplies and sheltering during the winter. The Nez Perce tribe also helped the men buy supplying food. I would have to disagree with “Thomas Jefferson” that was on this week show because he feels that Sacagawea did not make much of a contribution to the journey. But Sacagawea helped obtain horses for the men and translated for them during the expedition.
When I think of a documentary, I think of a film whose main objective is to be informative and spread knowledge on a topic or a problem many people may not already know about. Ken Burns does a great job with spreading knowledge in his films, especially in one the first documentary films we watched in class which was National Parks: America’s Best Idea (2009). Burns is one of the most famous and influential documentary makers in the world so obviously, he’s good at what he does. I learned a lot from this documentary on how our National Parks got started and their history. I loved learning about it as visiting our National Parks is one of my favorite things to do.
Have you ever wondered how the Trail of Tears got its name? Well the idea of Manifest Destiny, or expanding the land of America out west, grew throughout America in the nineteenth century. The Indian Removal Act was proposed to push Natives off their land. Though many Indians protested, they were forced into stockades and boats to be pushed off their land towards the West.
The conflict was between the Nez Perce tribe
