The History of the Nuclear Bomb With a sound more immense than a clap of thunder the world's first nuclear bomb was born. July 16th, 1945, the world’s first nuclear weapon was detonated(“The Manhattan Project [ushistory.org]”). The nuclear or atomic bomb is one of the biggest bombs in the history of the world. The bomb has come a long way since its creation and has changed the world as we know it. More powerful and dangerous from the first test to the first working missile.

The nuclear bomb was the first bomb detonated using fission. The United States of America attempted to create this weapon of destruction in late 1941 and later gained the code name “The Manhattan Project” (“The Manhattan Project”). President Roosevelt kept this project secret, and vice president Harry Truman did not know about the manhattan project until he became president in 1945 (“The Manhattan Project”). According to Matt Doeden’s book, “The Manhattan Project,” “The Manhattan Project was more than just one project. Teams of scientists worked with a range of different bomb designs. Some used U-235. During the summer of 1945, Robert Oppenheimer was ready to test the world's first nuclear bomb (“The Manhattan Project”). The site of the bomb's detonation was named the trinity site and was over a hundred miles away from civilian homes. According to Matt Doeden, “An intense blast lit up the landscape. A glowing fireball rose high into the sky.
