As the gardening year comes to an end, it is with sincere gratitude that I extend thanks to the parents and community members who helped to make the Holbrook Community Garden a success this past school year and summer months. With your support and hard work, vegetables were provided to CHEFS and the school cafeteria!
This year, Mrs. Baillargeon and Mrs. Smith used the cabbage and carrots to make tasty coleslaw for students. Various herbs, and garlic were used to create meals, and potatoes, summer squash, and carrots from the garden were also served.
The students in grade 5 enjoyed harvesting the fall root vegetables. They also used the garden for Science class to deepen their understanding of types of vegetables, photosynthesis, and decomposers,

Wow, what a crew! Mrs. Valley’s recruitment of volunteers, and organization of the calendar makes it all possible! But without everyone’s help, the garden wouldn’t be possible, so thank you for your time and hard work! Recently, the Normans suggested raising the open bed section to offset the wet area in the spring. They donated timber to frame the open garden, and their time and muscle to make the raised bed. Thank you, Rhonda and Dave, for your time, talent, and teamwork to improve and sustain the garden! Also, I would like to extend my thanks to Hummingbird Hollow for their donations of seedlings, and the delivery of soil to the garden. They are a great community resource, always willing to give valuable advice on gardening. Thank you to Miss Jan Logan and Mr. Daryl Frye, along with my husband, Mr. Roberts, for helping with equipment, setting up in the spring, and putting away in the fall.
