In friendship you don 't need the most interesting friend. Just the most loyal friend. As the novel went on Stanley Yelnats realized that having one true friend is better than having friends that don 't really care. Through out the influence of Zeros friendship, Stanley changes from being unloyal to a loyal, and caring friend. In the beginning of the novel Holes by Louis Sachar, Stanley was a very unloyal companion. That is proven by, “ Sorry, I don 't know how to teach… After digging all day he didn 't have the strenght to teach Zero… He needed to save his energy for people who really counted,” (Sachar 82).
