Have you ever wanted to go to camp? Well after reading the book Holes by Louis Sachar , you might change your mind about that. In the book Holes Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake for “stealing” a pair of famous shoes. Sounds nice right, wrong its sucks. In the book stanley and all his friend have to overcome a bunch of challenges. Such as, the Warden who is not a very nice person. Another is when his friend Zero runs away from camp and stanley has to go out in the barren desert and find Zero so he does not die.I think that the theme of the book Holes is growing up. I think that because stanley and his camp friends are all young kids in about 8th grade, he also has to be responsible and show ambition for his friends to strive to …show more content…

He was always teased for being the weight that he is and he hated it, he was even teased behind his back.
“He was in middle school and was always teased for his weight”(sachar pg7). But after stealing the shoes Stanley had two choices, either go to jail or go to camp. Stanley thought” I have never been to camp before, maybe it will be fun”

Stanley gets to camp and has only been there for two months and has already stirred up trouble with some people. For example, there is the Warden, but that's not all. There is also Mr.Sir who really does not like stanley. Well , Zero runs away and now Stanley feels guilty for that on top of everything else. So...Stanley has two choices, he could stay at camp and continue to dig holes or he can man up steal a truck and go save Zero. Well sense Stanley wants to be a good friend he goes out and tries to save Zero.

More than anything Stanley hated digging, but had to dig, he was forced to dig big 5ft holes everyday. And stanley still has 15 long months of digging ahead of him. But...maybe he didn't . “The shovel felt heavy in stanley's fleshy hands”(sachar pg 26). Stanley had to take ambition and keep digging even though he did not want to.
