Gender and Sexuality in America Over the years, there has been much discrimination against people who are gay in many places; such as at work, in public, and many other places. People often tend to treat people who are gay differently because they think it is unnatural. And thus, in order to be able to live like anyone else, they’ll have to lie when talking with people against homosexuality. I would argue, however, that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality; as under the first amendment of the bill of rights, people have the right to freedom of expression which allows people to express their ideas and opinions. The reason that most people use to back up their claim is, “The bible states that it is wrong,” however, this is not much of a strong argument because it’s your religion to believe in but you should try to force your own religion onto other people. Basically under the first amendment, everyone is entitled to the freedom to practice their religion, but it also works the other way so you can practice your religion but cannot force it onto other people. So a person can choose to believe in your religion and to believe that homosexuality is wrong or they can choose to believe in something else and to approve of same-sex relationships. Another reason that people use to argue homosexuality is that couples are to be made up of a male and a female. However, if this is true, then how come according to statistics from the Williams Institute at the University of California Las Angeles that right now more same-sex couples are open to the idea of formalizing the relationship through marriage while divorce rates are much higher for straight couples than same-sex. (Hertz, 2011) According to these statistics, it sounds like it’s the same-sex couples who are finding the right partners rather than straight couples despite the arguments that couples are made to be of a male and a
