The famous phrase stating, “You are what you eat” in terms is literally true. Many people might have heard it from a family member or perhaps from a local television channel. If this phrase is true then wouldn't everyone want to eat healthily? The surprising answer is a big no, many consumers just like me who think that we buy natural and healthy food are mistaken. Many people may not realize this but the food that we purchase at local grocery stores are genetically modified. GMOs, otherwise known as genetically modified organisms are foods that have been genetically modified in order for huge corporations to control and profit of these foods. Consumers would expect to get natural food from the produce section of the store but instead, they are given artificial food that has been genetically modified by humans.
This wasn’t the case back in the 1990s where GMOs weren’t introduced at the time. Now that we are in the modern era, GMOs are now present in a vast majority of processed foods. The most sickening problem about this issue is that nations such as Canada do not label these GMO foods. Not knowing that a product is genetically modified can allow companies to increase in sales but, companies should indicate that a product is genetically modified because it is not naturally made, can be a potential risk to your health, and many people …show more content…

I sure hope so because many of these GMO producing companies are not letting this happen. One of the biggest foods that are GMOs and manufactured the most are corn and soybean. According to a documentary called Food Inc., a scientist says he, “[estimates] that that 90% of the processed food products in the grocery store contain either a corn or soybean ingredient and most of the time they contain both.” (Food Inc.)
