How to Make Honduran Tamale The word “Tamale means wrapped food” (“History”). No one knows for sure when the tamales were invented. “The tamales come in all shapes and sizes”,(“History”) and can be wrapped in banana leaves, other non-toxic leaves, or even paper. Some tamales can be made with beef, chicken, or pork; sweet tamales are made with raisins and cinnamon. In our family, tamales are made for special occasions, like Christmas, New Year's or just about any other family or holiday celebration.
