Individual Assignment part A Interviewed with Michelle Brown, who is the Human resource specialist, at the City of Duarte was a great experience. The City of Duarte is the organization that I was interviewed for and it is a local government. There are about 200 employees in the Duarte City Hall in which forty-two employees are full-time employees and the other 158 people are temporary employees. Since Duarte City Hall is a local government, according to the Duarte City Hall website, “the Duarte City Council voted on June 10 to approve 17.2-million operations budget and capital improvement for fiscal year of 2014-2015 and City of Duarte had $25,800 General Fund surplus. Also, Duarte City Hall can generate their revenue from Housing Authority, Sales tax and Motor Vehicle License fees. However, in the fiscal year of 2014/2015, the City of Duarte did not generate any revenue from the Housing Authority and is running at a deficit since the Department of Finance forced the Authority to turn over $9.4 million to Los Angeles County. Unlike the normal businesses whose purpose is to make profit; Duarte City Hall does not need to compete with any organizations because its purpose is to serve the community and build a pleasant living environment for the community of Duarte. The city of Duarte has five departments, which are public safety, park and recreation, community development, city manager's office and administrative services. The human resource is under the administrative services. Also, the City of Duarte website states that the mission statement of the City of Duarte is with integrity and transparency, the City of Duarte provides exemplary public services in a caring and fiscally responsible manner with a commitment to our community’s
