The Martian pulls strings when the main character almost dies fifty times. This book is about an astronaut named Mark Watney who is stranded on Mars during a NASA mission. Some main conflicts are that Watney has to survive alone on Mars with not enough rations for more than a few months. The author uses great humor and suspense which builds the story’s already amazing plot. Andy Weir uses humor and suspense to build off of his past to create a great novel.
The author has visited many places in his life that have led him to become an amazing person working in the space industry and an amazing author. Andy Weir was born on June 16, 1972 (White). He also set his career with NASA when he started programming he was 15 (Garratt). He tries to keep up to date on space travel so he can maybe make another book (New York Times). All of the events in Weir’s life led to him working at NASA and writing The Martian
The author has a great sense of humor which he bestows on Mark.

Suspense is very good, especially when in the book goes back and recalls the suspense that already happened.“It was ridiculous of the events that lead me to almost dying”(weir 104) Death is one of the most suspenseful things as it often is in this book.The author uses popular terms to reach to the younger audience.The author talks about “ Brain farting” - he is referring to when he made a decision that does not make a lot of sense. And it came down to me brain farting(Weir 96) The author leads people to want to know what this brain fart let him mess up on to either result as a good thing or a bad thing. The suspense comes in many different forms. The author uses suspense in when mark needs to survive and something
