Can cricket finally crack Americas sports market? I think cricket can crack Americas sports market eventually, the only thing is cricket is a world sport that is more popular in other countries. Cricket was invented in England in the 16th century by children living in the weald. Cricket is the world’s second most popular sport behind football. The first ever international match took place in New York in 1844, between the United States and Canada. It was won by Canada.

School kids would play cricket every day. They would play in grammar schools, farm communities and everywhere in-between. When the 18th century came along the sport changed a little. More people started to play and watch, and as they watched, they would bet on the game. This is where they came up with the rules because the stakes were high. They had to make rules therefor no one could cheat or get hustled. The oldest rule recorded was in 1744 that was written on a handkerchief. There is only one rule that has never changed and that is how far the pitcher stands back while throwing the ball. Cricket is a game played with two teams. Both teams have 11 players on the field and a twelfth man on the bench in case anyone gets hurt. The purpose of the game is too score as many runs as you can while at bat and get out or strikeout the opposing team while in the field. To apply the law to make sure the rules are upheld throughout the game there is two umpires. Umpires are responsible for making decisions and notifying the scorers.
