How Change Affects My Life

People often fear change due to the uncertainty that is associated with it. Everyone deals with change differently and has a unique perspective on whether the results have positive or negative impact on their life. According to Lamberton & Minor (2014), when change affects your personal life, specific coping plans are vital in dealing with it. Change is inevitable, but how you mentally manage the crisis can either make you a stronger person or cause regressions.
Reflecting on the past, I can recall an event that occurred in my life with a positive change result. After graduating from nursing school, I got a job offer in critical care at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. As a new nurse, I was fearful of starting a new job at such a large healthcare facility. I felt somewhat incompetent of my nursing skils because there is a still lot for me to learn about caring for critical patients. I can recall my first day of unit orientation, I was both frightened and excited about my new venture. I felt the intenseness of the unit as there were many doctors, residence and nurses around, making it seem almost chaotic. She was the most kind, caring, compassionate person I have ever met, so losing her has been difficult for me to cope with. My faith in God has gotten me through the grieving process but it was certainly a difficult journey. Growing up, my grandmother was a big part of my life. I was able to confine in her and shared a lot of my thoughts with her. I felt that she understood the thing that were happening in my life and give me great advice on way to deal with my problems.
