Diabetes is a medical research that interests me the most. Diabetes is a long term disease that causes your body to not make enough or no insulin at all. Not having the insulin you need in your body increases your blood sugar. Insulin is made in your pancreas. It helps turn the glucose in your body to useful energy. Once your body stops making insulin, the glucose stays in your bloodstream which makes it higher.
High blood glucose levels is very bad to the body because it can damage your heart which can lead to heart failure. The risk of having cardiovascular disease is a lot riskier if you have diabetes. High blood glucose also affects the brain. It is the leading cause of strokes. High blood glucose also affects your kidneys and limbs.

He had diabetes for about seven or eight years. When he was first diagnosed, I was about seven or eight years old. My dad was affected by diabetes tremendously. He got weaker as the years gone by. Three days a week he would go to Dialysis to get injected with insulin. He would stay in there for about three hours. I was never allowed to come inside where he does Dialysis because I was too young to come in. He had a hard time walking up the stairs because his legs would hurt a lot. In 2010, he got a stroke. He could not function his right side of his body. His whole right side of his body was motionless. My mom had to make a decision whether or not he should still live in our house or go to a care home. My mom chose to bring him to a care home because our house is too small for a big hospital bed. Also, there are times of the day where we can’t take care of him. My brother and I were too young to know how to take care of my dad. We didn’t know how to clean him, give him medicine, or anything. He’s gone through a lot in his life. I want to learn more about medicine because of my dad. I want to be able to treat people who has diabetes. If I were to treat people with Diabetes when I grow up, I’ll feel like I’m with my dad
