Abraham Lincoln, one of the best presidents to date, he fought to end slavery, and made many changes that made the United States better and less divided. He will never be forgotten. (“Suppiger”) Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809 near Hodgenville Kentucky Abraham Lincolns Parents Thomas Lincoln, a farmer and a carpenter, his mother, was the former Nancy Hanks. Both of his parents were born in Virginia and moved to Kentucky at an early age. Abraham also had a sister named Sarah and she was called Sally. Abraham did have a brother named Thomas who died in infancy. People in the south must have been mad, but why? Slavery is you making someone do your work and ruining their lives. It was a sick twisted period in American History (“Hall 21”) during the war more people spoke against slavery and on January 1st, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln set out the Emancipation proclamation that said slaves in the southern states would be free. Lincoln worked with other leaders to write a new law that would end slavery in the United States. (“Hall 22”) after four years of war the Confederate army gave in and the war was over. Lincoln had a lot of work to be done to make America whole once again. They needed to build everything from farms to businesses and the slaves that were freed needed jobs and education. The United States needed to be rebuilt. And that’s what Lincoln did, he rebuilt the damage that was done. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was a terrible event and left many people heart broken and depressed. The president to end slavery was dead. (“Hall 25”) Abraham and his wife Mary went to see a play on April 14, 1865. Abraham was shot by John Wilks Booth and he later died that next morning.
