Ludwig van Beethoven was an inspiration to many. His music was revolutionary for his time. He created new styles of music along with breaking forms and introducing the world to the Romantic era. Mozart, however, changed the mold. He incorporated an emotional side into his works and emphasized music based off of sound, notes, tone, and pitch as a form of art outside of religion (Brown 55). Music became more broad and open to all. In addition, Mozart had extraordinary performance skills thus, leading to his honor as an embodiment of classical movement (53). “Despite Mozart’s uncouthness and immaturity, he produced one work after another that seemed divinely sponsored as they transcended his own personality.

Many of these composers were taking risks, had they not done that we would not have some of the greatest musical pieces. All of these composers worked hard and contributed significantly to the musical world, however I am going to focus on Mozart and the contributions he made. The one composer that I really took a liking to was Ludwig Beethoven‘s music was compelling to his audience. The way that the melodies are taken from his song “Barenboim on Beethoven "Pathetique" 1st movement was a piece that enhanced my ears to the classical music. Some classical pieces can be very subtle in its effect with its critics. The experience of being able to learn about the classical music and the ability to understand how each piece is played is astonishing. The sound makes me feel at peace and in-tune with my thoughts.
There are many differences and similarities between the fourth movement of Beethven’s Fifth symphony and the fourth movement of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, whether it is the orchestrastion of the pieces, the dynamics, form and period. Ludwig van Beethoven is one of the most well known Classical composers in music history, born into a family of musicians and was seen by his father as a profitable prodigy and had several of his piano compositions published by the age of twelve. He was the first successful freelance composer and changed the way music was composed and performed as he composed pieces that defied the standard ways of composing during the Classical era by using an expanded form structure, larger orchestra, dramatic themes and replaced minuet and trio with scherzo and trio making the third movements of his symphonies faster than traditionally performed. He also treated instruments as individuals instead of grouping them together such as the bass instruments which originally formed the Basso continuo. Beethoven experimented with the ways an instrument could be played , creating new sounds, and would have large pitch ranges between instruments which aided in the expressiveness and drama of his pieces.
Like Mozart’s father, Beethoven’s dad wanted him to become the very same “child legend” that Wolfgang had been. Although that didn’t take off as planned, Beethoven’s music career was certainly not a failure. The German pianist and composer is commonly held as the greatest of all time, as he immensely expanded the scope of symphonies, concertos, and quartets. 40 years after his death, Beethoven’s famous “Fur Elise” was discovered by a german music scholar. It is rumored that this song was dedicated to the girl he proposed to, Therese Malfatti.
“ One of Beethoven’s most significant contributions to the music of his time was to rediscover a true tragic style” (109). This illustrates how Beethoven developed his own way of composing that stood out against other composers of his era. In Beethoven’s Letters 1790-1826 it mentioned the fact that he also showed creativity with his style by taking poems he had heard, or that his friends had written, and composing piano pieces for them. This made, Beethoven’s style unquestionably
In the 19th century, Romantic music dominated the period, and it places emphasis on human subjectivity, inward expression and the freedom to express deep, complex emotions. One of the key changes in the romantic period was the development of solo genres, e.g. concerto, which it emphasizes on the individuality/uniqueness of the soloist, e.g. virtuosity. The soloist was considered to have the function of an orator, whose function is to deliver good musical sense and to arouse deep emotions in the listeners. In the same era, instrumental music became increasingly more important and this was the time when programmatic music came to light. As suggested by the name, audience could usually tell a story from the music.
During the Romantic period, composers and other artists saw Beethoven as their artistic and spiritual hero leading to divisions with different interpretations of Beethoven’s music. The conservatives were more motivated in writing and composing absolute music while the radical progressives focused more on creating adjustments to the musical structure that included program music and chromatic harmony. Musicians including the Leipzig Conservatoire Joseph Joachim, Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann were a part of the conservative circle who were inspired by Beethoven and believed that by following in his footsteps they would remain dedicated to writing string quartet, symphonies and other forms of tradition related with the Classical period. However,
