Fidel Castro and his communist dictatorship have had a huge negative effect on Cuba and its people. Fidel Castro's rule has limited the economic growth in Cuba and has made it one of the poorest nations in Latin America. Also, Fidel Castro was a brutal dictator that has no remorse for his actions. Finally, Fidel Castro has taken a lot of freedoms away from the Cuban people like freedom of speech and press.

Castro would not hesitate to order the arrest of former friends and associates if he suspected they were conspiring against him. Castro would also have a tendency to put a lot of people in prison. According to Kai Suherwan, an writer for The Eye, “Castro had even acknowledged that he held 15000 political prisoners in 1964.” Also according to Matthew Guzman, a writer on Debate, “5% of the Cuban population at one point was in prison, more than Stalin or Hitler achieved.” That is a large amount of people to put in prison, even Stalin and Hitler, who are people known worldwide as one of the most evil people in history did not achieve what Castro. Castro would also herd homosexuals into camps for “re-education”. The United States and Cuba did not get along and have had many battles. The United States hated Fidel Castro and wanted to get rid of him and his communist rule in Cuba.
