How Did Frank Lloyd Wright's Influence On Society

Along with influence from Louis Sullivan, it is said that Henry David Thoreau and the book “The Art and Craft of the Machine” also influenced Wright. Wright applauded Thoreau’s influence. He said, “The History of American Architecture would be incomplete without Thoreau’s wise observations on the subject” (Harding). “The Art and Craft of the Machine” also influenced Wright. He admired the modern “simplified and delicate” tempo of future establishments (Pevsner). While Wright was very much influenced, he was very influential as well. Architects today learned many lessons from Wright. The first lesson is that the architect should be able to “see beyond their times.” The second is that an architect must be innovative and creative. The third is that each architect should have their own style so that there are several styles of architecture. The Nissan designer, Shiro Nakamura, says that Frank Lloyd Wright influenced him in some designs for some of his cars. This makes sense because as, I said before; Wright lived in Japan from 1917-1922 (Hakim). Another person that says he was very influenced by Wright is designer, Devan Kaufman. Kaufman says that to him homes designed by Wright have always “just made sense.” He says that each home is a work of art, designed by a true genius, and is not adorned with extravagant pieces that have no purpose. He has always felt inspired by the way Wright’s rooms flow into one another and the way each room is scaled to fit it’s purpose. Kaufman designs many of his homes to look alike to Wright’s designs. He loves that he can do this because Wright’s houses were so contemporary one hundred years ago when they were built and one hundred years later and they’re still contemporary today
