One of the components of maintaining a complete health record is by authenticating each entry to show authorship of entries in the document. In this Ethic Scenario III (where one of the physicians does not want to sign his individual report), it is the responsibility of the other physicians within the group to bring that to the attention of their chief or the director of Physicians so that the physician can be reprimanded and made aware of the rules and regulations that govern his refusal to sign his written/dictated report. In addition, the HIM director should remind the physician either in writing or with a telephone call that the AHIMA code of ethics II vs 2.5 emphasizes that professionals working with personal health information should
This case happened in 2010 is about a retaliation for exposure of upcoding a bill at a small hospital in Nevada named Boulder City Hospital. The employer name Paula Sellers who worked in the Health Information Department as a procedural coder. Paula filed a lawsuit against her boss for firing her, and she doubts about the accuracy of the coding, and she refused to sign the procedure code under her name. According to the lawsuit Paula an alleged the hospital hired a company named Emcare. She audited four hundred twenty-eight claims and found three hundred fifty-three errors and she told her boss they would face criminal prosecutions for choosing higher-paying codes even if the services delivered did not justify them which is called upcoding
Healthcare providers rely on ethical codes to establish guidelines and standards for addressing issues that arise. Associations representing the professional organization are tasked with the duty of developing and tailoring a code of ethics to assist its members to understand expectations in their professional role. For example the American Health Information Management Association and the American Physical Therapist Association established a code of ethics for its members. Each association considers the relation of the health professional obligations and constructs a code of ethics to serve as guidance to the professional. When reviewing the code of ethics for AHIMA and APTA, one may definitely draw parallels.
Book three of Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis, commences by discussing moral rules, which are directions for the good human life. Moral ideals may be preferences but are not moral obedience or aiming for high morals. Morality is concerned about three things; first, fair play and harmony between individuals; second, cleaning up and improving or harmonizing the things inside each individual and third, the general purpose of human life, what we are made for, what the inventor/creator wants. Modern people think in the first way and lose the other two. Lewis next discusses cardinal or pivotal virtues which include Prudence, Temperance, Justice and Fortitude.
Some other kinds of ethics are, virtue ethics, where the goal is to be virtuous or to exhibit moral character, and Deontology, where the goal is to obey rules and
The idea of ethics can be shown many different ways, as displayed within our readings. When looking at ethics, there is a broad spectrum of what people believe to be right and wrong. One instance that I saw the issue of ethics was in the Disney movie Aladdin. When referencing the reading regarding ethics, there are six principles of ethics that can be shown through both this picture as well as this scene depicted within Aladdin: categorical imperative, utilitarianism, hedonism, the golden mean, the golden rule, and the veil of ignorance. Staring with categorical imperative, this principle states that right is right and must be done even under the most extreme conditions.
The AHIMA Code of Ethics is to be used by AHIMA people and certificants, buyers, workplaces, affiliations, and bodies that grasp it or use it as a structure of reference. The AHIMA Code of Ethics reflects the devotion of all to keep up the calling's regards and to act ethically. Regardless, the code does not give a course of action of principles that suggest the best possible conduct in all conditions. Specific uses of the code must consider the setting in which it is being considered and the probability of conflicts among the code's regards, models, and principles. Moral commitments spill out of each human relationship, from the individual and familial to the social and master.
Such a moral code would only be applicable to the followers of that religion. If another religion is forced on a population, their moral codes will have to change with it. For example, the Aztecs were famous for many things, but possibly most famous for their practice of human sacrifice. This was a religious practice that they believed pleased their gods and ensured a good harvest (Kramer, 2013). To the Aztecs, this was therefore an ethical act as it ensured the survival of their society.
Most of the time peoples get their ethical or moral views from their religion since they were young. Most religions have explicit or implicit requirements or ideals for moral conduct although they also include other elements. In some cases, religions contain explicit rules or commandments: ‘Honor thy father and mother’ and ‘Thou shalt not kill.’ Some religions recognize and revere saints or holy people who provide models for us and exemplify virtues we should follow. (Barbara Mackinnon & Andrew Fiala, 2015) Divine command theory is the view that morality is dependent on the God, and that moral obligation consists in obeisance to the God’s commands.
In Kantian ethics, it is believed that the only actions that are moral are those performed out of one's duty to follow the moral law, as opposed to acts performed out of desire. Even more currently, this idea can be related to Christianity, the largest and most popular religion in the world. In Christianity, moral acts are those that obey the ten commandments. Another type of ethics that the
The concept of ethics entails systemizing, justifying, and recommending right and wrong conduct. It involves in practical reasoning: good, right, duty, obligation, virtue, freedom, rationality, and choice. Humanity has questioned this concept of ethics and ‘good’ for as long as it has survived, as it deals with real-life issues such as “what is morally right and wrong?” and “how do people ought to act?”
The last theory is Aristotle’s virtue ethics which states that we should move from the concern towards good action and to focus on the concern with good character. This paper argues that Aristotle’s virtue ethics is better than the other ethical theories. The divine command theory says that what is morally right and what is morally wrong is determined by God and God alone. People who follow the divine command theory believe that God is the creator of all things, therefore, he must also be the creator of morally right and wrong acts.
Although religion may play a power in the system of ethics, religion does not have to be present in order to have a system of ethics. Ethics is defined as moral principles that govern a person's behavior. A moral principle, or rule, is the distinction between right and wrong. Nowhere in the definition of ethics nor moral does it mention religion. Yes, it is true that religion has a set of their own moral principles in texts such as the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, etc.
Religion is a social institution that has most important function to support those forms of conduct that have been essential for the survival of the group. In some religions, God and His agents on the earth are the representative of moral teacher who instruct their people of the essential of the wrong and right conduct. God’s commandment is the representative of good action which has function to fight against satanic influence which is the representative of evil or wrong action. So, through this concept, human may differentiate between good and wrong morality. Hence, religion is important to develop ethical
There’s been times in my life where I surrounded myself with negative energy and let it influence me to otherwise become negative myself. I found myself being someone I wasn’t and vowed to myself to strive to keep a positive attitude with everything I do and everywhere I go. I feel this has driven me not only to self-love and being my true self but to be able to pass love unto others freely. Another ethics I hold dearly is the belief that through determination and perseverance anything is possible. I was never handed anything I have accomplished in life.
