Although religion may play a power in the system of ethics, religion does not have to be present in order to have a system of ethics. Ethics is defined as moral principles that govern a person's behavior. A moral principle, or rule, is the distinction between right and wrong. Nowhere in the definition of ethics nor moral does it mention religion.
