I believe that playing Jeopardy was a great way to test the intelligence of the machine, Watson. The game of Jeopardy consists of random questions, that cover a wide range of topics. No real person can know absolutely everything and although our computers nowadays seem to have all the answer, they to do not know everything. The randomness of the game is what makes it a reliable source of intelligence testing. Jeopardy also, only provides three seconds for its' players to answer the given questions. This curve in the game, would also make it an adequate method of intelligence testing. The article, How IBM's Watson Became a Jeopardy Champion, states that Watson could not be hooked up to the internet because it was far too slow to answer the game questions within the 3 second time limit. Watson had to search his stored data to access information as quickly as he did. …show more content…
I say this because Watson beat the best players at the game, but also because the process of the machine accessing stored information form his memory, as quickly as possible is similar to the way the human brain works. Watson was able to access his stored information and choose the best answer, based on the clues. Although, the machine had approximately 1 million books worth of information stored in its' memory, the questions for the game are completely random and therefore could not be strategized. Watson wasn't able to access his information as quickly as a human brain can, but the time he and the process he went through is exactly like a human thought process. Overall, Watson was proven to be extremely smart, through the use of the Jeopardy
