On his 3rd expedition, Jean Francois aimed to establish a colony with him. After that, he returned to France earlier than he would have liked to because he had no success. Jacques Cartier led and went on a lot of voyages in North America in the 16th century. This made a significant impact on now’s exploration and colonization in Canada. He explored the Eastern coast of North America, and Newfoundland, and discovered and mapped out the interior of the Gulf of St Lawrence.
British now had control of a piece of New France which is what Canada was called when French had control of it. The war and the treaty which lead to Britain’s control of Acadia would later on help Britain take over North America and create a stable country years
While the contributing factor to the success of these developments in the growth of the French state also belongs to Jean-Baptiste Colbert. Louis XIV achieved his goal of an absolute monarchy, however why did he

French Caribbean 1607-1754 In 1492 Columbus set sail for the Indies and landed in the Bahamas, and in 1493 the first Spanish settlement was established. His journey and geographical discoveries helped pave the way for European colonization of the New World. Columbus’s voyage lead to the Columbian exchange in which crops, livestock, ideas, culture, and even people were exchanged between the Americas and the “Old World”. In their strive for wealth, the Spanish began to exploit and enslave both indigenous people and Africans through this exchange.

The relationship between the Natives and settlers was hostile and a misunderstanding. Of the many settlers there were the Franciscans who were responsible for protecting the Natives and converting them to the Catholic church. The Natives were a big part of the missions they were there before the missions were built, they were introduced to the language and religion of the settlers. Some of the Natives worked with the settlers, built alliances and joined the community, getting jobs and practicing the religion. Outside Indians tribes did not feel the same way they attacked the missions and threatened the settlers.
When more and more people came from different countries to collect the riches that Columbus had found, neighboring countries felt the urge to send residents on a permanent voyage to discover the riches like Christopher Columbus had done. It wasn’t just two or three countries who followed this mechanism either In the French colonial regions, they were focused on trade, specifically of fur with the natives. While the French were focused on trade, a large portion of their income came from fish. Along with that, farming developed, mainly to provide support.
Jacques Cartier is more of an invader than an explorer. This is due to his actions, motives, and adaptations to the bumps along his journey in hopes to find a new passage to Asia. Cartier’s motivation surrounded around profit, opposed to an Explorer, whose focus would be directed further towards finding new land and discovering new things. These were some of the results following Cartier’s travels, but they were not intended. He harmed First Nations he encountered, and was a kidnapper, taking advantage of the people around him.

In the 18th century, France controlled more of the United States than any other European power. Frances control spread from New Orleans to the Great Lakes. Spain, which was not as a powerful force, decided to rescind its help to the Louisiana purchase, and eventually led Spain to sign a treaty with France. Spain gave France control of the Louisiana Purchase. That is why there is so much French and Spanish influence in New Orleans.
Missionaries were sent to the newly discovered continents to convert the native population to Christianity. In a letter from Father Kino, a Catholic Priest, in 1687, it is described how he succeeded to convert the Indian tribes and started building “ a new church” on their lands (Doc 6). Another example of sending missionaries is the Society of Jesuits founded in 1540 by the Catholic Church to spread Catholicism on the continents different from Europe. In this way, the church finds people that are easy to be converted because they don’t have or have very basic religions. That is why “in the name of God” the conversion of the native people changed their behavior and attitude towards the Mother Church.
