John Locke was an English philosopher whose ideas were influential during the Enlightenment. John Locke believed that humanity is largely the product of their environment. He also believed the mind was a blank tablet that each experience was written in. Locke rejected the divine right of the monarchs to govern with absolute power. He believed that people are endowed with natural rights to life, liberty, and property. Locke believed that it was needed to protect these natural right that led people to establish governments in the first place.
