Human history, throughout periods, has encountered various incredibly momentous changes. One of the biggest alterations was the emergence and development of the new Imperialism, which lasted from the 19th century to World War I. This period of time was significantly characterized by intense policies. Great nations such as America, Germany, Britain and France concentrated on expanding their boundaries and influence by traveling to undeveloped countries and ruling over these regions. The Europeans either created trade or sent militaries to their colonies with the intent to force the locals to follow their directions, which led to aggressive resistance from the local people, more specifically, Africans and Asians. In his speech, he presented his opinion on the French colonial expansion. Jules Ferry was best-known for his significant role in promoting a vast extension of the French colonial empire. With a view of a thoughtful politician, he regarded expansion as an essential action that was beneficial to the country's politics and economics. In order to support his belief, he proposed three major reasons. His pieces of evidence consisted of the economics demand, the humanitarian duty and the behavior of nationalism, "The policy of colonial expansion is a political and economic system ... that can be connected to three sets of ideas: economic ideas; the most far-reaching ideas of civilization; and ideas of a political and patriotic sort". First of all, Ferry indicated that extending colonies was necessary for the country due to some current dangerous threats. He pointed out his concern about "the need for outlets (to export)" and stated that this problem should not wait for future but be solved immediately.
