Keith Jesperson was known as the “happy face killer”. He has been convicted of killing 8 women all across the United States, including Wyoming, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, and California. His family believed he had brain damage. He had fallen when he was a kid from 25 feet in the air landing on his head. He was also beaten regularly by his father.
Jesperson was an outcast who was bullied and beaten on his entire young life. He was always different from other people his age. His wife Rosie had suspected him of cheating and move her and the children 200 miles away to her parents house when he was gone to work. They had gotten a divorce in 1990, after almost 15 years of marriage. After the divorce Keith decided to follow his dream and become a police officer. His dreams were soon brought to an end when he was injured during a training drill. He then went back to truck driving. He realized with this job it gave him the opportunity to kill without being caught. Keith killed only women. They were mostly prostitutes or homeless women. He would strangle, beat, and often sexually abuse them. Keith said he killed because he liked the feeling it gave him. He had killed eight women in the span of five years. On January 23, 1990 he had beat and strangled Taunja Bennett. He had gotten away with it by someone else confessing. Laverne Pavlinac confessed to get away from her abusive boyfriend, John Sosnovske. Then in April of the same year he attempted to kill Daun Richert-Slagle but he let her go. He was then caught and charged with sexual assault but was released. In 1992 he had killed an unknown women. Then a month later he killed Cynthia Lyn Rose in Turlock, California. About a month after that he killed Laurie Ann Pentland. In July, 1993 he killed a Jane doe. Then again in September of 1994 in Florida he killed again. In 1995 he killed Angela Subrize in Wyoming, raping and strangling her.
