During the rise of Julius Caesar(a great leader), after many great battles of defeated his enemy he finally defeated his rival, Pompey, and made himself dictator for life, “becoming de facto a monarch without a title”. The roman statesman, Cicero, said that the Republic was ruined once Caesar won in their civil war. Sadly he didn’t live long enough to find out if he was right, but he was. After the war Caesar’s assassins failed at reinstating the Republic. Caesar’s great nephew, Octavian, the rightful heir to the throne went to claim his throne only to be challenged by his opponent, Mark Antony. But Mark Antony’s dispute with the Senate to get revenge for Caesar’s assassination helped Octavian get the Senate back on his side. Octavian had beaten Mark Antony at Mutina in 43 BC for the Republic but the Senate did give him the honor he wanted so he turned against them and joined Mark Antony and Lepidus. They formed the “Second Triumvirate” which took out the army of assassins Brutus, and Cassius at Philippi in Macedonia, 42 BC. They then divided the …show more content…

Christians were generally the poor and were often persecuted by the Romans. But 313 C.E., emperor Constantine declared that persecution of Christians stop and that Christianity was now tolerated. Later that century Christianity became the official religion of the empire. Constantine was considered a god but that was against their religion, so it weakened his authority. Constantine later split the empire in-two, the Western Empire and Constantinople(a city named after
