Throughout the history of the United States, there have been countless public figures that had an enormous effect on today’s society. However, there are only three I felt are important to me. They are, Martin Luther King Jr, a significant civil rights activist. Franklin D. Roosevelt, creator of the New Deal policy and President of the United States during the first half of World War two. Cesar Chavez, a civil rights activist and an American labor leader.
In the article, “Don’t Blame the Eater,” David Zinczenko argues it is the fast food industry’s fault for the nation 's growing obesity epidemic. Furthermore, he believes people should not be blamed for their own obesity. Zinczenko argues fast-food is much more available to the fast paced lifestyle people live in rather than consuming healthy alternatives. He also discusses the fact so many people are on a low budget, it is then best and more inexpensive for them to consume fast-food. Zinczenko states a claim that the fast-food industry “would do well to protect themselves, and their customers, by providing the nutrition information people need” (Zinczenko 464).
He is one of many civil rights leaders who fought for a more just and inclusive society. At this time in 1964, democracy was unequal in many forms. Although the United States ratified the 13th Amendment in 1865 which abolished slavery and geared the country towards equality, segregation and racism did not stop. Other laws, such as the 15th Amendment which was passed in 1870, that granted African American men the right to vote were violated as it was required to take a literacy test and pay a poll tax (which many African American men could not pass or afford and the government was fully aware of). Martin Luther King Jr would call this a law just in its face and unjust in its application (King 95).
believed in integration between races for everyone to have equal opportunities. “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold the truths to be self- evident that all men are created equal.” (Doc. 2) “Let us march on segregated schools until every vestige of segregation and inferior education becomes a thing of the past and negroes and whites study side to side in the socially healing contest of the classroom…” (Doc. 4) Martin Luther King Jr. believed everyone is created equally and everyone has a chance to be great no matter the
Martin Luther King Jr realised the discrimination against Black people of America and he wanted to make an alteration to the way that Blacks were mistreated. Up to now people had been campaigning for Black Americans rights, to secure equality for all Americans. Although these civil rights activists had been successful in their intention to some degree, however racism still pursued through America. Seeing how activists had
With actions of civil disobedience and nonviolence he worked to fulfill his dream of racial equality. This dream was expressed in King’s “I Have a Dream” speech which he presented in Washington D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial in1963. His dream was to see his black children hold white children hands and that his children would not be judged because they are black but by who they are inside (Doc G). The purpose behind giving this speech was to present to all of America the key message that all people are created equal, even though this was not true during the movement, King believed that it could be in the future or next generation. King wanted everyone to be a part of his dream and help in become reality (Purpose).
Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader in the African American Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, he was known for his nonviolent movements and methods of protesting. This involved many African American citizens to take verbal and physical abuse from the police and not being able to do anything about it. He used his words to inspire the nation into taking action, instead of promoting violence. Dr. King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech in front of thousands of United States citizen from all different backgrounds at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. Kings uses ethos to point out why segregation was unjust and to justify why African Americans deserves the same rights as the white citizens of the United States.

They did the bBoycott because African Americans were not getting to sit in the front; theyfront they had to sit in the very back of the bus which they didn’t like. In Martin Luther Kings "Letter from Birmingham Jail", he expressed his respect for the Law as a whole. Although he expresses his respect, he does differentiate between the two kinds of law that are present in society; which is a just law, and an unjust law. King advocates for obeying just laws, he mentions that one has a moral obligation to obey just laws. However, he does note one also has a moral obligation to break unjust laws. The reasoning for his disobedience to unjust laws is explained using St. Augustine’s theory “An Unjust Law is no Law at all”.
“I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character”. Dr King had a vision of a society in which race was not an issue in how people were treated or in how they were allowed to to live their lives. The efforts of King and those who liked him have, in fact , changed the country and the world for the better in noticeable ways . His vision has made the world a more equal place , if not an equal one, and it helped to ensure that minorities have a voice. A second impact Martin luther King did to change the country was in 1955 he became heavily notice in Montgomery and the Alabama boycott of the city buses.

His task was not easy, but he did all his best to stop the racism in the American society. So who Martin Luther King was, and what he did to serve on issue of racial discrimination between black and white Americans? To answer these two general questions shortly, Martin Luther King was a black American, he was one of the most significant honest voices of civil needs movement, and hero of equal rights. Because he chose to end the racialism with principle of nonviolence or peaceful resistance, according to his said "We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools". My research will answer these two questions: a) How he impacted the American society?
He grew up with a deeply rooted determination to obtain equal rights for all American citizens. He led many protests and gave extremely motivating speeches that eventually made him the most known Civil Rights leader. “Martin Luther King Jr. emerged as the head of a movement for justice and equality that branched out from Montgomery and swept through the south” (ramsees7).
