“ I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” This famous quote was spoken by the one and only Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I’d like to to share my thoughts about how Dr. King has helped bring people together, how his dream lives on today, and the impact he left behind. August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and thousands of others joined in a massive march in Washington, DC. During this peaceful protest, King made one of the most popular speeches in history. The “ I Have A Dream” speech prompted the 1964 Civil Rights Act and awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize. He taught others that all races are equal and one shouldn’t overpower the other. King wanted equality for everyone. He was Baptist minister and activist who helped others, no matter their race or religion. …show more content…
There are still protests, and people fighting. You will still see horrible signs being held and hear people yelling, just because someone believes in something different than they do. I think that Dr. King would be proud of our nation for electing its first black president, but he would be disappointed that people are still filled with anger and how they judge someone by how they look or who they pray to. However, I believe that without people like Dr. King, who was brave enough to stand against hatred, so much worse would be going on. Without people like him, it may still be acceptable to spray people with fire hoses because of their race. Our schools may still be segregated, and so many of us wouldn’t even be allowed to be
