I decided to do my Great American project on the one and only Martin Luther King Jr for his bravery and courage. King was born on January 15, 1929 and passed away on April 4, 1968. A little facts about his younger self was that he was born with the name Michael King, but king’s father changes it as for himself. Kingw was a middle child between his older sister Willie Christine King, and younger brother Alfred Daniel Williams King. King did like to sing, which was why he was part of the church’s Choir. King did have a pretty good childhood, he was raised with respect and he has his father to thank for that. Elder King regularly whipped Jr up until he 15! Neighbors would often hear the shouts of Elder King said “I will make something of you even if I have to beat you to death!” King did look up to his dad no matter what and saw his proud protest about segregation. King never really did have resentment towards the white people. Nor did he see anything wrong with him. But one thing did really bother King. When King was younger he had a boy who was his friend, and the boy was white. They always played together up until the boy's father made him stop seeing King. Today we still read that speech which moved hundreds of people. People also King by his role in the Civil Right’s movement. He had a huge role in it such as, letting people know about it, encouraging how important non violent protest are, and was a leader in the African-american Civil Rights movement. King would help set up boycotts, protest and marches. He had many achievements suchs as, Being an Advocate for non violent protest, Being a leader in the Montgomery bus boycott, of course his “I have a Dream” speech! Martin Luther King came to Memphis to speak and support the second march of the sanitation workers.The strike lasted for 64 days and grew into one of the major civil rights
