Video Essay #2 The video that I have chosen to write my essay over is Marin Luther King & Civil Rights of 1968. I have chosen this video, because I think Martin Luther King was a very inspiring person. He had always known that the Civil Rights Movement would kill him. These are powerful and tragic words. Martin Luther King died for what he believed in. He gave his life for his people, so that they would be able to enjoy the freedom that America had promised. Martin Luther King was shot and killed on a hotel balcony in Memphis. He was there to help settle a workers strike that had been on going. He was supporting garbage collectors. These workers had chosen to go on strike after a tragic accident. The blacks were the only one that actually picked up the garbage. The whites ran the equipment. He had been dealing with many things at the time. Everyone was dependent upon him, and this had started to take a toll on him. However, he needed to succeed at this mission in order for people to restore their faith in him. One of the major issues with Loeb is he refused to recognize these events as part of the civil rights movement. He did have a great deal of public support. However, he was selfish. All he wanted was for the “garbage to be picked up to restore public health.” What he was not thinking was that blacks are people too, and their living conditions were horrendous. . Martin Luther King decided to lead a big march. However, he was late and arrived an hour after it started. There was tension in this march between the peace keepers and those who were troublemakers. The march started to go downhill when some of the blacks started breaking windows. This started a riot. King left, because the riot started to get deadly. This looked back on his image, and made people start to think he was a coward. I do not think this is fair, because King was a peace
