Miep Gies

Miep Gies was a woman born in the early 1900’s whom survived World War I when she was a young girl. During World War I, Miep was sent to the Netherlands and her and others peers suffered from starvation and tuberculosis. When she was older, she worked for Otto Frank before helping him in hiding in 1942. Miep is a very strong character. She survived the chaos of World War II, she helped the Franks and she also survived World War I (annefrank.org). Miep is considered brave because she helped the Franks during the time they were hiding, but not only did she help the Franks, Miep Gies assisted many other families during World War II. One thing that Miep did was find ration books to get food for all of the families in hiding. Miep knows what it is like to be in circumstances like those, in fact Miep helped out tremendously for the families in hiding. Miep Gies worked as a secretary for Otto Frank’s company, Opekta, in Amsterdam for around ten years. In June of 1942, the Franks had to move from Germany to Amsterdam because the family took notice of Hitler coming into power. Knowing Miep Gies was Otto’s secretary, he requested that Miep helps him and his family whilst they hid in Amsterdam. While Miep was assisting the Franks and the Vaan Pels, she was assisting many other families, much like that of a secret agent.
