Judaism came to be when God was said to have appeared to the ancestors, and challenged them to follow his commandments. Because of this Judaism was siad to have came about in 2.500 BC and is one of the monotheistic religions that still exist today. A prophet is defined as "a person inspired by God to speak in His name" (Matthews, pg. 253). The Bible defines a prophet as a person who directly receives information from God" (Number 12:6). According to the Bible a prophet has both/or spoken and written communication from God. "The "prophet" proclaimed the message given to him, as the "seer" beheld the vision of God." ( Numbers. 12:6). Many people did not believe that the world was created by one being but multiple beings. Besides prophets enstilling the belief of God into mulitple people by speaking His name, they also "delivered prophecies on how to “avert national and personal disaster” (Matthews 253).
