Mary Harris Jones was a fearless woman, she used her voice to fight for justice for laborers. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, many countries were experiencing child labor. Labor worked extremely hard for long hours and didn't get paid well. This was extremely harsh for people who had low incomes, immigrants, and larger families. She was deeply affected by tragedies like the 1914 Ludlow Massacre and shared her experiences with miners, who faced brutal workdays and poor pay during the Industrial Revolution. “To attract attention to the cause of abolishing child labor, in 1903, she led a children’s march of 100 children from the textile mills of Philadelphia to New York City "to show the New York millionaires our grievances."
